Prometric shares with our clients a heightened focus on security and quality. In response to that shared commitment, we’ve invested in multiple security initiatives that span the entire Exam Lifecycle. Throughout 2011 we will provide updates on activities related to security in each phase of the lifecycle. In this article we will update you specifically on efforts within the area of Security Results & Analyses. Below is a brief update on our progress and plans in three key areas.
- Communication plans to reinforce the message for security and quality: At the end of last year, we sent our CBT test centers a letter, e-mail and web notice reinforcing the need for commitment and focus on security and performance. The notice included specific information regarding the forensic analyses Prometric is using to make determinations about sites that are in compliance with our expectations and those that are not, along with notification of our intent to take aggressive action, including closing sites, for those not in compliance. Throughout 2011 we will deliver cadenced messages to our test centers updating them on progress made, actions we’ve taken, and results we’ve achieved to continue setting the tone for metric-based improvements.
- Enhancement of security analyses/tools: Prometric analysts developed a business intelligence tool that uses statistical tests and algorithms to detect indicators of potential test item theft, cheating patterns, proxy testing events, and abnormal testing patterns. That tool, coupled with the consolidation of all security related data into one repository updated daily, have greatly increased our ability to more quickly address and respond to these incidents with appropriate measures at the site level, including closures, suspensions, notices, retraining, and more.
- Security based closures and investigations of sites: Using the data and analyses cited in points two and three, Prometric has put in place a continuous results and analyses audit program. The impact has been an increase in the rate of test center closures such that during the last two months alone, site closures have equaled the annual average for the last three years. Prometric has also increased the number of test center investigation and remediation efforts, with 52 in progress. These forensic analyses efforts will be recurring and ongoing, and our actions (closures and investigations), will continue at the pace the results dictate, or until such time that the incidences or occurrences are eliminated.
These improvements are but a small part of the multiple efforts underway across our exam lifecycle security portfolio. We will update you on those complementary efforts in future newsletters as we progress in 2011.
